A second chance at a last goodbye. Deadhead is an original anthology play- presenting a series of dark, wacky tales set within the infamous commercial establishment Memento Mori. 4

Deadhead is Written and directed by Jason Kelly, and features a live three piece band, with music composed by Max Lozowsky. Come and witness the final moments of lovers, liars, and a glue-sniffing celebrity chocolatier.

When I was first asked to review this play, initially I was filled with a huge sense of dread. I've heard a few stories about what happened in Hillsborough in 1989 but the stories I heard were usually tinted with football rivalry. I feared perhaps this meant I couldn't give this play the justice that it deserves, with as passionate a review as somebody who does have a strong personal connection with it. I was wrong!

A fusion of Shakespeare and musical theatre is due to steal the stage at Studio Three (Hope Street, Arts Bar). The cabaret style show is based on Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and is an immersive experience that spins the classic on its head.

Malion is hitting the stage at the Live Rooms in Chester on April 11th, followed by captivating performances at the Liverpool Arts Bar (Studio Three) on April 12th and 13th, 2024. This represents a significant milestone for Tired Horses Theatre (THT) as their debut original production. Crafted by the visionary Artistic Director, Joseph Meardon, this reinterpretation of the classic Pygmalion myth offers a thought-provoking exploration of identity, and the darker dimensions of masculinity.

Imagine this, it’s a warm sunny day in September. You’re gonna enjoy these last few days of summer before the rain comes and you’re forced to become a shell of yourself for the next four months. You decide to take a walk, maybe get an iced coffee, perhaps you’ll sit on a bench and read; you would really like to finish your book before the seasonal depression sets in. You head to the park and as you’re walking along, smiling at dogs and dodging wayward seagulls, you spot a group of people sitting on the grass.

I first got involved with They Don’t Really Care About Us after hearing that Sab was looking for another writer to collaborate with. I’d read great reviews about the projects he and the 4AM Productions team had worked on so decided to get in touch.

Sab had written the first 20 pages and after an initial chat and we organised a Zoom call to map it all out. We bounced ideas off each other for over three hours and I knew straight away this play was going to be something special.

Malion is Tired Horses Theatre’s (THT) first original production, written by our Artistic Director Joseph Meardon who reimagines the myth of Pygmalion, a sculpture who falls in love with his own creation which is brought to life by the goddess Aphrodite for him to love, it is a tale of devotion and true love. However, there is a much darker and unsettling reding of this myth which Meardon highlights, focusing on harmful masculine behaviours and how they harm women today.

Curtain Call: Dirty Old Town & Out The WoodWork

The Hope Street Theatre was presented with a double bill of "Dirty Old Town" by Mikyla Jane Durkan and "Out The Woodwork" by Lee Clotworthy. Mikyla's one-woman show blended dark comedy with her signature humor, while Lee's Scouse farce followed Pat's adventures after winning £30 million in the lottery. Both performances left the audience captivated and entertained.

Old Fruit Jar Productions came back to The Royal Court studio with a bang, staging The Incident Room. This gripping play delves into a 1970s investigation that rocked the British police force, focusing on the infamous Yorkshire Ripper case. It's been hailed as one of the biggest manhunts in British history. Written originally by David Byrne & Olivia Hirst, "The Incident Room" received superb reviews, earning a well deserved 5 star rating and adding another feather to Old Fruit Jar Productions cap.
